Tuesday February 16th, Queen’s Israel on Campus was privileged to have the Right Honourable Herb Gray visit to talk about Canadian-Israeli relations. Over seventy students and community members were in attendance to hear Herb Gray’s presentation outlining the history and current status of Canada’s strong ties to Israel. By providing historical context and outlining Canada’s role in the founding of the Jewish State, Herb Gray was able to illuminate Canada’s strong and healthy relationship with Israel. Focusing on the two countries shared values and our strong political, economic, educational and cultural bonds, Herb Gray gave valuable insight in Canada’s foreign policy regarding Israel. Queen’s Israel on Campus was honoured to have such a distinguished guest.

Queen’s Israel on Campus was thrilled to host Dr. David Tal, Israeli historian, professor and the Kahanoff Chair in Israeli Studies at the University of Calgary for a insightful lecture Tuesday November 10. About 50 students from both ends of the political spectrum were in attendance to hear Dr. Tal’s balanced and thought provoking summary of the Arab/Israeli conflict. After the event, Dr Tal then went for coffee with members of both Israel on Campus and Students for Palestinian Human Rights, were the students had the opportunity to discuss current issue relating to the conflict and facilitated a discussion between the two opposing campus groups that was greatly appreciated by all. Dr. Tal’s knowledge and sensitivity have potentially opened the door to a new dialogue on Queen’s campus that we will look to build on. The event was a enormous success and Queen’s Israel on Campus feels privileged to have had such a dynamic speaker on campus.
